Top Toffee Ale'ouse
Elm Tree

Spike, Big Steve and Chocoballs

Elm Tree,
Westminster Road,
Walton.

Nominated by Billy Latta (Northern Ireland Blues) - 'Why don't you try the Elm Tree on Westminster Road before the match for your Top Toffee Ale'ouses feature? It's a great bit of Craic and the ale's not bad either. All the lads in the Northern Ireland (Everton) Supporters Club meet there before and after the game and we are always made more than welcome. Thanks Billy. (01/03/2001)

Owned by Steve Williams and ably managed by Sue Holmes, the Blue Kipper boys received a true Top Toffee Ale'ouse welcome at Elm Tree, home of the Northern Ireland Blues where we met up with Billy Latta. Closer to the ground than you think, we also could have parked outside, in the end it was just a short stagger. There are about 240 regular visitors from the NI Blues coming over via Easijet for £25 return, they certainly found a good home in Elm Tree which must be amongst the cheapest prices in Walton.

The Management ****
Elm Tree is managed by the lovely Sue Holmes and her team. Included in her team are two Alsatians Kiara & Trojen so don't even think about tryin' it on with our Sue no matter how good you might fancy your chances. Not forgetting the lovely Chelsea (10) and Kallum (8) . Sue says she only employs blondes as this makes Sue look clever!
Atmosphere****

After a slow start the place was heaving an hour before kick off and you could not move in the bar, so much so that the overspill falls into the car park - depending on how much you've had that is. Quiet without the jukey the place livened up when Z-Cars came on. Elm Tree have a party following the last game of the season, fancy dress - the Blue Kipper boys have it pencilled in already.

Ale *****
A true Blue ale'ouse selling Blue Metz and Blue WKD, you also get a bargain here - Doubles at £1.50 and Trebles at £2, the snifters were flying down. There was of course the statutory Stella Artios and Ice Cold Guinness ably supported by all bottles being just £1. Sting Ray was suitably impressed with his large scotch and Jogger pronounced the Carling to be 'spot on'. Elm Tree is most definitely VFM
Music, TV & Radio ***
SKY, big screen in the bar and a TV in the lounge. There is a Jukey but it was either broke or the locals are mingebags, no sounds. However, just before we left the management redeemed themselves by playing Johnny Todd, All together now and Here we Go which got us right in the mood.
Locals ***
Davey Wadeock, Flat pint Peter, Gary the Pool Shark and Robbie the Moaner. NOTE: No Firemen allowed!!
Special Features **

£2.50 to use the car park which is patrolled and handy, in fact if you look out the lounge window you can see Goodison. So if you're in the Main Stand you could keep your eye on your car!!
Happy Hour Monday - Friday 12 Noon til 8 pm!!!
The place is covered in phrases like 'a bookie is a pickpocket who lets you use your own hands', witty but why?
'Five days thou shalt labour as the Bible says, The 7th is the Lord thy God's, The 6th is for football' and here we were playing Man City on a Sunday!!
