Top Toffee Ale'ouse
TOP HOUSE
Top Toffee Ale'ouse

Top House, nominated by Peter Rigby
St. Mary's Lane
Walton Village (carry on around the back of Walton Church)

'I would like to nominate Top House, Cain's bitter, free jukebox, great sarnies and Sky Sports on the telly. There are usually some visiting supporters so the banter's great, only drawback is the bosses son Jay, he's a redneck' (Peter Rigby 01/09/00)

The Blue Kipper crew had the pleasure of two visits to Top House, due to a dodgy cameraman on the first visit, and were only too delighted to return to this 'Top Toffee Ale'ouse for a second time. The welcome is second to none, Irene the landlady is just like yer Mum and the standard of totty behind the bar is top drawer (Jay & Big Jim excluded).

The Management * * * * *
Irene & Jim Maher, have been there 5 years and run a sound ale'ouse with the help of the offsprings Tracey & Jay who work behind the bar. Jim has got an excellent recruitment policy, the credentials are : 1. Female 2. Fit as a butchers dog, that'll do for us!
Atmosphere * * * *
Once again we find a place with wall to wall blueboys, standind room only two and a half hours before kick off. The place is buzzin' with the usual expectation, the jukey is blarin' with the girls behind the bar giving impromptu renditions of each song played (Elvis is a particular favourite! Hear that cat squeal) accompanied of course by the statutory dancin'.
Ale * * * *
Tetley House, serving all the usual including Cains bitter and Extra Cold Guinness. The service is excellent, the most asked phrased being 'Are you being served?' and the response is usually 'Yes thanks and are you doin' anything tonight?'. The bar staff are kitted out in sexy black polo shirts with the 'Top House' logo, the leather kecks are not obligatory but very well received.
Music, TV & Radio * * * *
Sky TV (Big Screen) in bar, small TV in back lounge. Deafening jukey, (free), blares out top chart tunes whilst the staff and customers sing along, a rockin' place.
Locals * * * *
Include 'Beer belly Billy' the resident DJ, 'Tory Billy' (who is in his late 80's and still as fit as a fiddle), 'Jack the Lad' and of course 'The Peter Rigby Crew' (Peter & Andy, George and George jnr and Dave and Adam).
Special Features * * * *
The first floor which is now home to Irene and Jim was once a Billiard Hall this has since been converted to living accomodation.
Top House is haunted by a Victorian old couple who have been seen many time after hours, most recently playing the one - armed bandit!
