A
Day In The Life of a Mascot.
The
day started, with a "reading" of the e mails of the
day. Thanks to ALL for their good wishes.
The wife pointed out "Everton havent won at Sunderland
since 84-85", she's a magpie so I dont know if she was
gloating or being supportive. I quipped back "Oh, we won
the league that year, and the Charity Shield, and the Cup Winners
Cup !"
Corrie and I then printed off the "Welcome" logo,
from the Peoples Forum, (the one written in Chinese) and added
to it from Stapo & son, the intention was that Corrie would
hand it to Li Tie.
12.00 am, left the house for meeting point at the Wessington,
met pal, George and also bumped in to Andy Clarke, Hi Andy.
1.00 pm headed down to the ground, parking was scarce, so George
jumped out of the car removed a police cone and there it was
a parking space. (The offending parking Cone was hidden in the
boot).
1.20 pm arrived at main reception and escorted to the Directors
Bar, Corrie met up with SAFC mascot. We were given a SAFC goodie
bag.
1.40 pm the mascots are taken to the changing rooms to meet
the players, I tried to go but was refused entry and had to
remain in the Bar (shame).
2.05 pm Corrie returned with autographed Everton shirt in hand,
autograph book full, and loads of signed pics. I asked him,
"Who did u see down there ?" he replied, "Kevin
Campbell in his undies! Wayne Rooney, David Moyes and Li Tie,
I gave him the note, and he said something to me in Chinese,
I think ?"
2.30 pm Taken to the SAFC board room, to meet Bob Murray, he
presented certificates to the lads. Also met in there Sir Philip
Carter, who was fussing over Corrie (dead nice), had our photo's
taken with BK, he thought Corries name may have something to
do with Coronation Street, imagine it. "Yes Bill, he was
conceived while watching Corrers !"
2.50 pm Pitchside, Corrie has a kick about with the SAFC mascot
and a great big daft Black Cat.
2.57 pm MY SON RUNS OUT ON TO THE PITCH WITH DAVEY WEIR AND
THE BOYS, a marvellous cheer goes up from the packed travelling
blues, well done lads ! (The hairs on the back of my neck are
still standing up).
3.00 pm 1 Minutes silence observed impeccably.
3.02 pm Escorted to our seats among the Blue hordes, still wearing
our suits, jeez it was hot.
The rest of the days activities will be covered via match reports
by lads better equipped at it than me, but needless to say
"1-0 to the Everton"
A marvellous day was had by all. Mascot and very proud Dad.
Corrie & Mark Stapleton. (10/09/02)
